6 Natural Ways To Get Rid Of Ants |
Smelly, silver house ants are common in many homes in Las Vegas and Henderson. There's nothing like walking into your kitchen in the morning, teary-eyed and ready for your morning cup of coffee, only to discover that your home has been invaded. These are the most effective natural recipes that get rid of ants that attack your home.
1. Mint
Plant mint around the perimeter of your home to repel insects.
Mint is a natural insect repellent. You can grow peppermint in your home or use peppermint essential oil as a natural remedy for ants. Ants hate the smell and your house smells like fresh mint! Plant mint around the entrances and perimeters of your home. Put a few drops of peppermint essential oil on cotton wool and use it to wipe down suspicious areas. You can also place cotton wool with peppermint oil in areas like wardrobes where ants are common.
2. Vinegar
Mix a 50/50 solution of vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Use it on ants to die, and use a wet towel to get rid of the ants..You can also use vinegar and water as a deterrent; spray it around windowsills, doors and other places where you see ants enter.
3. Lemon juice
Like vinegar, lemon juice also seems to remove traces of ant odour. Try mixing a solution of 1 part lemon juice to 3 parts water and use it as an all-purpose spray. Spray the lemon solution around the entrances and perimeters of your home, or anywhere you see ants.
4. Cinnamon
Cinnamon is an excellent choice for killing ants. When an ant inhales cinnamon, it suffocates and dies. You can use ground cinnamon and sprinkle it on the ant trail or around the opening of the ant farm. The cinnamon essential oil also works well to repel ants. Mix a few drops of cinnamon oil with water and spray it on ant trails and around doors, windows and cracks.
5. Cayenne pepper or black pepper
Chilli and black pepper repel ants.
Ants hate hot peppers. Black pepper will also do the trick. Identify the source of the ant infestation problem, sprinkle pepper around that area and, if possible, create a wall to keep ants out of your home. An alternative solution is to mix peppers with water and spray the resulting solution on the ants. The pepper will not kill the ants, but it will certainly prevent them from coming back.
6. Food grade diatomaceous earth
Diatomaceous earth breaks down the exoskeleton of insects.
Food-grade diatomaceous earth (DE) also works well as an ant repellent. This powder is the fossilised remains of marine phytoplankton. The sharp microscopic edges of DE can cut the exoskeletons of ants, causing their bodies to gradually dry out.
Gently spray a thin layer of DE on window sills, under the refrigerator, under cabinets, in and around bins, and anywhere you see ants.
Repeat once a day until all the ants are gone.
